There is something particularly magical about an October wedding in the Buckinghamshire countryside. The softer autumn light, changing foliage and abundance of seasonal colour create the perfect backdrop for flowers that feel romantic, natural and beautifully abundant.

For Ollie and Helena’s October wedding , Papaver Studio created floral designs for their ceremony at Cublington Village Church , followed by their wedding celebration at Horwood House in Buckinghamshire .

The couple wanted their flowers to feel elegant and romantic while still having a wonderfully natural, yet modern quality — with flowers and foliage allowed to move, trail and spill rather than looking too formal or structured.

It was a beautiful setting for an autumn wedding, and one that suited our signature style of wildly romantic floral design perfectly.

An elegant church wedding in Cublington

The wedding began at Cublington Village Church , where the couple exchanged their vows surrounded by their family and friends.

The beautiful church provided a timeless backdrop, with its traditional architecture and soft natural light creating a wonderful setting for the ceremony.

For the floral arrangements, we wanted to complement rather than compete with the character of the church.

Large, abundant urn arrangements framed the ceremony, bringing together. Foliage draped across the pulpit and flowing arrangements framed the windows. soft blush and peach tones, creamy whites, deeper burgundy flowers and abundant green and Burgundy foliage .

The flowers were intentionally loose and natural, with stems extending upwards and outwards to create movement around the couple.

Rather than relying on a symmetrical or overly structured design, the arrangements had an organic quality — almost as though the flowers had naturally grown into the space.

This approach works particularly beautifully for traditional churches, where the floral design can soften the architecture while still allowing the character of the building to remain part of the wedding photographs.

Romantic autumn wedding flowers

October is one of our favourite times of year for wedding flowers.

Although autumn is often associated with strong oranges, reds and rustic tones, an autumn wedding doesn’t have to follow a traditional autumn colour palette.

For Ollie and Helena, we worked with a more elegant, romantic interpretation of autumn ,

The contrast between the delicate blush flowers and deeper autumnal shades gave the arrangements depth, while the abundance of foliage kept everything feeling natural and seasonal.

We love using colour in this way — allowing a few deeper tones to add drama without allowing them to dominate the overall design.

From Cublington Village Church to Horwood House

After the ceremony, the wedding celebrations continued at Horwood House , a beautiful country house wedding venue in Buckinghamshire where I'm pleased to say Papaver Studio is a recommended supplier.

Horwood House combines a historic Grade II listed Manor House with extensive grounds and elegant contemporary spaces. The house itself dates from 1911 and was designed in the Arts and Crafts style, making it a particularly characterful setting for a wedding.

The transition from the village church to Horwood House gave us the opportunity to continue the floral story while adapting the designs to their new surroundings.

One of the main focal points was the fireplace installation , where flowers were arranged generously across the mantelpiece and allowed to trail down towards the floor.

This kind of floral installation is one of our favourite ways to transform a wedding reception space.

Rather than simply placing a vase of flowers on a mantel, an abundant fireplace design creates a real focal point within the room and gives the flowers a sense of scale.

For Ollie and Helena, the design echoed the church flowers while becoming more expansive and expressive for the reception.

Abundant flowers with a natural, editorial feel

The fireplace arrangement brought together roses, dahlias, hydrangeas, seasonal flowers and foliage in shades of blush, peach, cream, burgundy and green mirroring the ceremony florals and creating a stunning backdrop for the drinks reception in the main manor drawing room of Horwood House.

We particularly love allowing individual branches and stems to extend beyond the main body of an arrangement. These small details create movement and give wedding flowers a more natural, editorial quality.

The flowers weren’t intended to look perfectly symmetrical — instead, they were designed to feel as though they were growing organically across the fireplace.

This is very much at the heart of the Papaver Studio approach to wedding flowers.

Creating flowers that belong to the venue.

florals from the church ceremony were also thoughtfully repurposed to the reception. the large urns framed the top table for the wedding breakfast and the window designs ran along the length of the table, surrounding the couple with beautiful blooms.

the round dining tables were decorated with alternating low/high arrangements featuring tall vases and elegant taper candles as accents.

When we design wedding flowers, we don’t simply look at the colour palette.

We consider the architecture, proportions, light, season and atmosphere of the venue , as well as the couple’s own style.

For a historic church, that might mean large urn arrangements that frame the ceremony without overwhelming the architecture.

At a country house such as Horwood House, it might mean using the fireplace, staircase, entrance or gardens as opportunities for larger-scale floral installations.

The result is a wedding where the flowers feel connected to their surroundings rather than simply placed within them.

There’s something truly special about September weddings in the English countryside — that golden, low light, gardens just beginning to soften into autumn, and flowers at their most romantic and abundant. This styled shoot at Sandon Manor captured all of that magic, and we were delighted to create the floral design.

Working alongside the wonderful Vicky from Love and Loved Bridal, the vision was effortless elegance — modern yet timeless, with flowers that felt generous, natural, and deeply romantic.

A Hertfordshire Wedding Venue Full of Character

Sandon Manor is a dream setting for couples planning a luxury countryside wedding in Hertfordshire. With its beautiful interiors, large windows flooding rooms with natural light, and stunning grounds, it offers the perfect balance of grandeur and warmth. With a number of ceremony locations to choose from, we decided to focus on an intimate ceremony set up in the beautiful library within the main Manor House.

The soft September sunshine poured through the windows during the shoot, illuminating the floral installations and giving everything that gentle, glowing quality that couples love in early autumn weddings.

Romantic, Abundant Wedding Flowers

For this design, we focused on seasonal blooms in a palette that felt rich yet soft — perfect for couples who adore flowers and want them to be a defining feature of their day.

The floral selection included:

Vicky from Love and Loved Bridal curated a look that perfectly matched the floral styling — relaxed, modern bridalwear with soft movement and texture. The pairing of flowing fabrics and garden-inspired flowers is always a favourite for couples who want their wedding to feel stylish without being overly formal.

Hair and make up was kept classic yet ethereal and the stunning veil provided some drama!

Together, the fashion and florals told a cohesive story: thoughtful, elegant, and deeply personal.

Horwood House is known for its beautiful architecture and picturesque grounds, making it an ideal setting for outdoor wedding ceremony flowers. For Chelcie and Darren’s ceremony, we designed florals that framed the venue’s grand entrance while keeping the overall look soft and elegant.

The stone steps leading to the ceremony space were dressed with large urn arrangements overflowing with foliage and a mix of white Roses. Further arrangements lined the walls framing the ceremony space with trailing jasmine and yet more gorgeous Roses. Tied posies decorated the aisle chairs.

The result was a ceremony space that felt both luxurious and welcoming, blending perfectly with the grandeur of the building and beautiful gardens.

Chelcie loves White Roses and wanted these as the focal point for the arrangements, so they were incorporated throughout the ceremony and reception.

White roses are a favourite for bridal bouquets because they symbolise love, new beginnings and elegance — everything a wedding day should represent. Against Chelcie’s stunning gown, the bouquet added softness while keeping the overall look modern and sophisticated.

The same floral story flowed throughout the day, creating a cohesive design from ceremony through to portraits.

As a wedding florist working throughout the Home Counties, few venues capture rustic romance quite like The Tythe Barn in Launton. Megan and Jonathan’s beautiful September wedding was a perfect example of how timeless florals and thoughtful styling can transform this iconic Oxfordshire wedding venue into something truly magical.

From the ceremony florals to the candle-lit reception tables, every detail reflected their elegant vision: soft whites, warm creams and gentle blush tones, with seasonal flowers chosen for texture, movement and romance.

A Romantic Floral Palette...

Megan and Jonathan wanted their wedding flowers to feel natural, refined and in harmony with the barn’s character. We designed a palette of white, cream and blush, creating a look that was both classic and effortlessly modern.

Their arrangements featured a beautiful mix of:

Dahlia – Grown locally, adding soft structure and seasonal charm
Garden roses – for timeless romance and fragrance
Zinnia – bringing gentle texture and subtle colour variation
Snowberry – for delicate detail and movement
Hydrangea – offering fullness and softness throughout the designs

This combination worked perfectly with the warm stone walls, timber beams and countryside surroundings of The Tythe Barn, Launton.

Floral Ceremony Styling at The Tythe Barn

For the outdoor ceremony space, we created a breathtaking floral entrance framed with lush arrangements in soft neutrals. Flowers hung delicately from the large barn doors, framed by statement pieces. Whilst meadow arrangements lined the famous Wisteria walkway at Tythe. The perfect backdrop for an al fresco ceremony. Seasonal foliage, hydrangea, delphinium and garden roses softened the rustic architecture, while the hanging installation added a romantic, almost ethereal atmosphere as guests arrived.

The ceremony flowers were designed to enhance the setting rather than overpower it—one of the reasons weddings at The Tythe Barn in Oxfordshire are so special. The venue’s natural beauty allows florals to shine while still feeling completely organic.

Bridal Bouquet: soft, elegant and timeless

Megan’s bridal bouquet was a hand-tied arrangement of blush garden roses, creamy dahlias, hydrangea, spray roses and snowberry, finished with subtle foliage for a relaxed, romantic feel. The roses and geranium foliage made for a deliciously scented combination.

The soft colour palette complemented her dress perfectly and photographed beautifully in the natural light of the barn and surrounding gardens—ideal for couples planning a Tythe Barn wedding who want flowers that feel both luxurious and timeless.
